Your pediatric nutrition experts of Western Massachusetts

Welcome!

Our specialities at Jen Belanger Nutrition are all about babies, toddlers, kids, and teens. Both myself (Jen) and Lauren Amann are Registered Dietitians with special interests in nutrition for babies through adolescents. We’re here to help support you through Baby Led Weaning, the picky toddler phase, challenges feeding school aged kids, and fueling your kids through sports and the teen years. I also treat Eating Disorders, including Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

My work goes far beyond one-on-one counseling. I write digital cookbooks and meal plans (available here) so that my clients can put what they learn in session into action. I mentor interns and new dietitians, spreading the “all foods fit” message as far as I can while practicing from a weight-inclusive and trauma informed lens.

We work with kids, teens, and their families on nutrition issues like disordered eating and body image concerns, food allergies, picky eating, and everything in between. If you are concerned about your child’s weight, we take a body-positive, inclusive approach to healthy eating patterns, striving to achieve balance for optimal physical and mental health.

Adults

We welcome adults into the practice, especially those who are feeding little mouths! Whether you are a parent, caregiver, or daycare provider, we know that kids’ habits start with what they see on a day to day basis (you!) If you’ve got a condition requiring Medical Nutrition Therapy (like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, celiac disease, or others), it can be quite difficult to navigate how to feed yourself and your kids without messing up their relationship with food. We’ve got you covered!

What is a Registered Dietitian?

An RD is a food and nutrition expert. RDs are extensively trained to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy. The education and guidance you will get from an RD is evidence based and scientifically proven via rigorous research studies. RDs have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition from an accredited university, and have passed a national exam to obtain the highly coveted RD credential. RDs must also obtain continuing education credits and maintain a professional development portfolio to stay abreast of the new research and science in the field. With so much misinformation available online, on the news, and from your family and friends, it’s very easy to get confused. Keto? Atkins? Paleo? Intermittent Fasting? Where do you begin? Nutrition is not a “one size fits all” discipline. My approach to nutrition is simple and realistic. I emphasize the importance of “back to basics,” focusing on balance, variety, moderation, and fun!
